The Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam fee is $24.50.

Am I required to complete hunter education?
If you do not meet state requirements, you must complete hunter education certification.
What is the minimum age to complete the online course?

How long will it take to complete the exam?
You have 30 minutes to complete the timed exam.
Do I have to complete the course all at once?
Yes. The timer on the exam cannot be paused, so you must complete the exam in one sitting.
Exam Approval and Acceptance
Is my Hunter Education Number accepted elsewhere?
Yes. Proof of IHEA-USA-approved hunter education certification is valid in all U.S. states and Canada. (This is known as “reciprocity.”)
How do I get my Colorado Hunter Education Number?
1. Find out if you're eligible.
Hunters eligible to take the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam include:
- Hunters 50 years old or older and...
- Military personnel, including active duty, reserves, veterans, and members of the National Guard.

2. Pass the exam.
Pass the $24.50 exam. You'll have 30 minutes to complete the 50-question Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam with a 90% or better.
3. Get ready to go hunting!
If you are 50 years old or older, your Hunter Education Number (found on your Test-Out Completion Certificate) must be verified against your CID record upon completion of the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam. You should wait approximately 24 hours before attempting to purchase a permanent Hunter Education Card or hunting license from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
If you are a member of the U.S. military, you must bring your U.S. Military Test-Out Voucher and your military ID to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife office to have your military ID verified. Once your ID has been verified, you may purchase a permanent Hunter Education Card or hunting license from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Once you have completed all 3 steps for certification, you’re ready to legally purchase a hunting license or permit where required.
About Your Certification
What is the proof of test-out exam completion?
Once you pass and pay for the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam, you will be able to immediately print your proof of test-out exam completion and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you.
What is the permanent Hunter Education Number?
The Colorado Hunter Education Number is proof that you have successfully passed the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam. The Hunter Education Number will be printed on your proof of exam completion and will be used by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife to verify your record.
Replacement of Lost or Damaged Documents
How do I replace my Colorado test-out exam completion document if I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?
To replace a lost or destroyed proof of test-out exam completion document, log in to the course and print a new one.
How do I replace my Hunter Education Number if I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?
To replace a lost, destroyed, or damaged Hunter Education Number, go to http://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/HE-CardReplacement.aspx.
What are the minimum system requirements to access this course?
- A computer or mobile device with Internet access
- A soundcard and speakers or headphones
- A printer to print your course completion document
Can I access the course on my mobile device?
This course is designed to work on any mobile device, such as iPhones, iPads, and Android phones and tablets, as well as your computer.
Username and Password
How do I reset my password?
If you forget your password, you can reset it from the Forgot Your Password page. You will need to enter your username and the email from your profile, and an email containing the link to reset your password will be sent. There is also a link to the Forgot Your Password? page on the Log In page for your convenience.
Will I lose everything if I log out?
You have 30 minutes to complete the timed exam. The timer on the exam cannot be paused, so you must complete the exam in one sitting.
What happens if I get disconnected from the Internet?
Because the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam is timed, you cannot pause the exam once you have started it or return to the exam if you are forced to exit the exam. Please make sure you are in an environment with a reliable Internet connection before beginning the Colorado Hunter Education Test-Out Exam.
