Why must we have game laws, hunting seasons, and bag limits?

The previous chart shows wildlife populations back in the early 1900s, before we had game laws, hunting seasons, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Individual hunters and market hunters did pretty much what they wanted ... and wildlife suffered!

Wildlife laws and hunting seasons help protect wildlife. Hunters help the Department of Fish and Wildlife by following the rules, regulations, and hunting season dates. These rules and regulations do more than protect wildlife. They also help ensure that you have a fair opportunity to enjoy hunting now and in the future!
