5.9 Shotgun Ranges

Shotshells do not shoot as far as rifle or handgun cartridges, but they are just as dangerous when fired carelessly! Be sure you identify your target and what lies beyond it before you squeeze the trigger.

Maximum range distances for different shot sizes

Remember that you must choose the correct type and size of shot for the game you are hunting. In general, you should decrease the diameter of the shot you use as the size of your target decreases. Use smaller shot sizes with smaller game; use larger shot sizes for larger game.
