Effective December 15, 2010, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife changed their guidelines for distance learning. Students are now required to spend a minimum amount of time on each course page before proceeding to the certification exam.

4.8 Washington Laws and Regulations for Handguns

  • It is against both state and federal laws for a licensed dealer to sell a handgun to anyone under 21 years of age.
  • Centerfire handguns approved for big game hunting must be a minimum of .24 caliber and have a minimum barrel length of four inches.
  • Hunter education staff members recommend that you check with them at 360-902-8111 if you have any doubt about the use of a particular handgun for big game hunting.
