2.6 Bolt-Action Rifles

Bolt Action: Bolt-action rifles are strong and simple to use.

  • Lift the bolt handle up and pull it back to open the action.
  • To close the action, push the bolt handle forward and turn the bolt handle down. When the bolt is open, the rifle cannot fire.

Most bolt-action rifles are repeaters. That means they have extra cartridges in a magazine. The job of the magazine is to hold extra cartridges. After the rifle is fired, manually working the bolt ejects the empty case and loads a fresh cartridge from the magazine.

Different bolt-action guns have different types of magazines. Know where the magazine is and how it works on your gun.
