11.2 Wildlife Conservation

What is "wildlife?"

"Wildlife" is a word we use to describe all wild animals. It includes all animals that live in the wild. Wildlife includes all mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, etc. that live in the wild.

Some examples of wildlife here in Washington are bullfrogs, coyotes, deer, elk, mountain goats, pheasants, robins, (big horn) sheep, and snakes.

Dogs, cattle, barnyard goats and sheep, etc. are not wildlife.

Game animals are animals you can hunt if the season is open and if you have the necessary licenses and/or tags. Black bxear, grouse, and waterfowl are some examples of game animals.

Non-game animals are animals you cannot hunt. Eagles, hawks, songbirds, and owls are all examples of non-game animals.
