If you are under 18 years of age, in order to complete the Virginia hunter education requirements, you must pass both the online course and in-person Basic Hunter Education Course.

Locating and Signing Up for the Basic Hunter Education Course

After passing the online portion of Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries hunter education course, you will need to locate and sign up for the in-person Basic Hunter Education Course, the classroom portion required for online hunter education students.

What To Expect at the Basic Hunter Education Course

At the Basic Hunter Education Course, you must successfully complete the remaining course requirements, which include: 6-8 hours of instruction, firearm handling exercises, and Virginia’s Hunter Education Certificate exam.

After attending and passing the Basic Hunter Education Course portion of the hunter education requirement, you will receive your Virginia Hunter Education Certificate.

Basic Hunter Education Course Voucher
If you are under 18 years of age, the Virginia Basic Hunter Education Course Voucher is proof that you have successfully completed the online portion of your hunter education requirement. Students must present the Basic Hunter Education Course Voucher at the Basic Hunter Education Course to gain admittance.
Virginia Hunter Education Certificate

The Hunter Education Certificate is proof that you have successfully completed all the hunter education requirements and can legally hunt in the state of Virginia.
If you are under 18 years of age, you will receive the Hunter Education Certificate from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries after successfully completing the in-person Basic Hunter Education Course.
If you are 18 years of age or older, after passing the online Virginia Hunter's Ed course, you'll immediately print out your Hunter Education Certificate, which serves as your permanent certificate. Your Hunter Education Certificate allows you to purchase a hunting license in Virginia.

Replacement

If you are under 18 years of age and received your permanent Virginia Hunter Education Certificate after successfully completing the in-person Basic Hunter Education Course, you can contact the state to replace a lost or damaged certificate.
