Texas Hunter Field Day Information

In order to complete the hunter education requirements for Texas, you must pass both the online and Field Day portions of the Hunter Ed Safety Course.

Follow the steps below to complete the certification process.

  1. After Passing the Online Course…

Students must attend a Field Day led by Texas PWD hunting instructors in order to complete the certification process.

  2. Sign-up for a Field Day…

Go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Field Day Course page to search for a Field Day in your area or call 1-800-792-1112, Ext. 4999. You must pre-register for the Field Day with the instructor. The Field Day requires an additional $15 state fee, collected by the instructor.

  3. Attend the Field Day

Bring your Field Day Voucher to the Field Day. The Field Day includes a skills trail, live firing exercise, ethics presentation, review, and final exam and is typically 4 to 6 hours. Upon successful completion, you will receive a temporary certification card. You may legally hunt with a valid license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education Certificate (hunter card) will be mailed to you.

    Field Day Fee

Texas charges a $15 student fee to participate in the Field Day. This fee must be paid to the instructor upon arrival at the Field Day, either in cash or as a money order. Occasionally, there are additional fees associated with the course, e.g. facility, building or range use fees.
