Official South Carolina Hunter Education Course
About the Course and Hunting License Requirements
In most states, hunters cannot hunt legally unless they have had some type of hunter education. In order
to comply with South
Carolina hunter education law, all residents born after
June 30, 1979, must successfully complete a hunter education
course that is approved by the South Carolina Department
of Natural Resources before a hunting license can be obtained.
There are two study options:
- Ten-hour
classroom courses; or
- Independent study through this online course, followed
by a proctored exam. Upon passing the online Pre-Certification
Exam, you will be eligible to register for the written
hunter education test without
attending a classroom course. Simply print out your
Pre-Certification Exam Certificate, and use it as your
admission ticket! Call 1-800-277-4301 to register for the
proctored written test.
