Official Oregon Online Hunter Education Course

About the Course and Hunting License Requirements

Are you already registered for a Field Day? If not, STOP! There is currently limited availability of Field Days, and taking the online course will not guarantee you a spot at a Field Day. Please pre-register for a Field Day BEFORE proceeding with the online course.

The Today's Hunter course on hunter safety is the official online course of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. You can complete the course for hunting safety pre-certification to comply with Oregon hunting education law, or just take the online Oregon hunter education course to improve your hunting knowledge.

No person younger than 18 years of age shall hunt wildlife, except on the person's own land or land owned by the parent or legal guardian of the person, unless the person has in possession a certificate, issued by the commission or by an agency of another state, stating that the person has satisfactorily completed a course prescribed or approved by the commission in the safe handling of lawful hunting weapons.

This online course is recommended for self-motivated students age 14 and older with good reading and comprehension skills who have some firearm and hunting knowledge or experience. However, students 10 years old and older may be tested and certified in this course.

Upon successfully passing the online Field Day Qualifier Exam, you will be eligible to attend an Oregon Hunter Education Program Independent Study Field Day. To complete your hunter education certification requirements, you must attend a field day and successfully complete the remaining course requirements, which include several hours of field instruction, a range exercise, a live-fire exercise, and the written Oregon Hunter Education Certification Exam.
