Hunter Education Steps
The Today's Hunter in Nevada course is the official online course of the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The Nevada Department of Wildlife requires students to complete preliminary study before signing up for the classroom NDOW hunter education class. Students have two preliminary study options:
- Complete a printed workbook (available from the NDOW). Bring the completed workboook for admittance to the class, or ...
- Complete this online course. Upon passing the online exam at the end of this course, you may print out an Online Course Completion Confirmation. Bring the completion confirmation for admittance to the class.
Online Hunter Education Course Steps

- Take the Practice

- Take the Online Course Completion Exam. There is a $15 fee for the exam, which is collected whether you pass or fail. A
score of 80% is required for passing the online exam.
- Upon passing the Online Course Completion Exam, you can print
out your official Nevada Online Course Completion Confirmation, which will admit you to a Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education class.
- Register for and attend a Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education class to complete Nevada's hunter education requirements. Be sure to bring your Online Course Completion Confirmation to class—you will not be admitted without it.
NOTE: This online course does not complete your Nevada Hunter Education requirement. To get your Hunter Education certificate, you must attend and successfully complete a Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education class and pass the written final exam. About NDOW Hunter Education Classes
Hunter Education classes are offered year-round throughout Nevada. Pre-registration is required, and there is a $5 class fee, payable at the class.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education Class itself lasts a minimum eight hours (over two to three weeknights or a full weekend day) and includes interactive virtual shooting and hunting exercises that measure a student’s judgment and maturity. Other class activities and topics include hunter responsibility and ethics, regulations, game care, survival and first aid and wildlife management. Students finish by taking the 75-question written Nevada Hunter Education Certification Exam. Failure to complete or demonstrate proficiency in any portion of the course (preliminary workbook or online course, class exercises and participation and final written exam) could be cause for a student to retake the course.
NDOW Hunter Education Class Registration
Hunting License Requirements
Completion of an approved hunter education class is required for anyone born after January 1, 1960, in order to purchase a Nevada hunting license. However, a Nevada education class is not required if an individual can show proof of successfully completing an approved hunter education course in another state or Canadian province, or possesses a previous year’s hunting license from Nevada or any other state or province which shows proof of hunter education.
