Montana Hunter Field Day Information

In order to complete the hunter education requirements for Montana, you must pass both the online and Field Day portions of the Hunter Ed Montana Course.

Follow the steps below to complete the certification process.

  1. Before Completing and Paying for the Online Course…

Since Field Day options are limited, please ensure that a Field Day is offered in your area before taking the online exam. View the Montana Field Day schedule.

Field Days can fill quickly and completion of this online course does not guarantee you a spot at a Field Day.

  2. Complete the Online Course…

Register for the online course, complete the online course, and print out your Field Day Qualifier Exam Certificate. After completing the online course, you will be given a link that allows you to register online for a Field Day.

  3. Attend the Field Day

Bring your Field Day Qualifier Exam Certificate to the Field Day. At the Field Day you will participate in several hours of review, a hands-on demonstration test, and a written multiple choice test (given at the discretion of the instructor).

(Note: If you were born on or prior to January 1, 1985, you are exempt from having to complete a Field Day. If you are exempt, send a copy of the online course certificate to FWP, and FWP will mail your permanent Montana Hunter Education Certificate. Mail the online course certificate to: Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Hunter Education, 1420 E. 6th Ave., Helena, MT 59620. If you have a question regarding Field Day exemptions, please contact Patti Buckingham at 406-444-9948.)
