About the Course and Hunting License Requirements

Welcome to the official online hunter education course of the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

  • Study at home—on your own schedule and at your own pace—then take an online exam.
  • Print your Field Day Qualifier Certificate—This certificate is necessary to obtain entrance into the final portion of your hunter education training, which takes place with a certified instructor in the field.
  • Field Day registration—After you pass, you must open your Field Day registration account. Simply click the button that will display on your scoresheet and follow the online instructions. Your account will allow you to register for a Field Day, or modify or cancel an existing registration.
  • Mandatory Field Day review and testing led by MDC staff and/or certified hunter education volunteer instructors. You must attend a Field Day to complete your training and receive your hunter education certificate.

You can see a list of Field Days before taking the course. However, you may not register for a Field Day until after you pass the Field Day Qualifier Exam. Keep in mind that Field Days with current openings may fill up before you complete your course and exam. Your Field Day Qualifier Certificate is good for 365 days. You must register online. Registration closes for each Field Day seven days prior to its scheduled date, or immediately upon being filled.

This online course is recommended for self-motivated students age 14 and older with good reading and comprehension skills who have some firearm and hunting knowledge or experience. However, students 11 years old and older may be tested and certified in this course.
