Hunting is a safe sport, but it does involve a certain amount of risk. A safe hunt begins by addressing these four areas: be ready, know your location, prepare for safety, and tell others.

Select clothing based on the weather you expect, while being prepared for the worst. The most important clothing choices are a hunter orange hat and hunter orange outerwear—shirt, vest, or jacket. Missouri law requires the hunter orange color to be plainly visible from all directions during firearms deer hunting seasons.
