Primitive hunting arms include the muzzleloader firearm, the bow and arrow, and the crossbow. Today, these hunting arms are sought both as collector’s items and used for sporting purposes.

Missouri’s Wildlife Code allows hunters to use proper caliber/gauge muzzleloading firearms during any open firearms hunting season.

Muzzleloading rifle with parts labeled
Muzzleloader is the term given to early firearms because they are loaded from the muzzle or open end.

Inline flintlock muzzleloaders and percussion lock "underhammer" muzzleloaders have been around since the early 1700s. Contemporary or modern inline muzzleloaders are just an update of these earlier firearms.
