The Missouri Department of Conservation recommends using a fall-arrest system (FAS) that is manufactured to Treestand Manufacturer’s Association (TMA) standards.

  • Carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions for proper use of your FAS, and follow all safety guidelines. Only use a properly fitting FAS that is rated for your full body weight, including clothing and gear.
  • Make sure your FAS includes a full-body harness, a lineman’s-style belt, a tree-tethering system, and a suspension relief strap. Adjust the FAS for proper fit prior to climbing.
  • Discard fall-arrest systems that show signs of wear and tear, and adhere to the expiration date sewn into the FAS by the manufacturer.
