In Missouri, regulations regarding deer hunting season vary depending on the specific hunting zone and method used. These seasons occur during fall and winter, with specific dates depending on the zone in which you plan to hunt, and whether you utilize archery, muzzleloaders, or firearms to hunt. The best time to hunt deer in Missouri varies based on the specific season, deer behavior, weather conditions, and your preferred hunting style. During early fall, deer may still be in their summer behaviors and thus be easier to locate. As mating season approaches, bucks tend to be more active, marking an excellent time for hunting opportunities. During the late season, deer are usually focused on finding food for survival, which may lead to more successful hunts. In Missouri, all hunters born on or after January 1, 1967, are generally required to pursue a hunter education. Course completion is mandatory, and covers hunting safety, firearm handling, hunting ethics, and conservation principles. Those who cannot complete the course will have the opportunity to secure an Apprentice Hunting Permit. Please visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website or contact them directly for the most up-to-date information.
