The requirements for wearing blaze orange depend on what and when you are hunting.

When hunting upland game birds—including gray partridge, pheasant, quail, and ruffed grouse—you must wear at least one item that is at least 50% blaze orange. The acceptable items include:

  • Cap
  • Coat
  • Coveralls
  • Hat
  • Jacket
  • Shirt
  • Sweatshirt
  • Vest

When hunting deer with a firearm in any season,  you must wear at least one item, other than a hat, that is all blaze orange. The item can be any of the following:

  • Coat
  • Coveralls
  • Jacket
  • Shirt
  • Sweater
  • Sweatshirt
  • Vest

When hunting deer using a blind during regular shotgun deer seasons:

  • You must place at least 144 total square inches of blaze orange material on the blind. The orange material must be visible in all directions.
  • You also must meet the blaze orange clothing requirements for hunting deer with a firearm.
