About the Course and Hunting License Requirements

Welcome to the official online hunter education course of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. In order to purchase an Indiana hunting license, all hunters born after December 31, 1986 need a Hunter Education Certification card. If you are going out of state to hunt, you may be required to present proof of your successful completion of a hunter education course.

There are two study options:

• Instructor-led classroom courses; or
• Independent study through this online course. The online course is only available to Indiana residents 12 years old or older.

Online Hunter Education Home Study Steps

1. Study the Indiana hunter education course material.
2. Take one or more Practice Tests as many times as you like—free of charge—to ensure you've mastered the course material.
3. Take the Certification Exam. There is a $15 fee for the Certification Exam, which is collected whether you pass or fail. A score of 80% is required for passing the exam.
4. Upon passing the Certification Exam, you can print out your official Indiana Hunter Education Certificate. This will serve as your temporary certificate until you receive your permanent card in the mail. You should receive your permanent card within 60 days.
