Official Arizona Hunter Education Course

About the Course and Hunting License Requirements

Under Arizona hunting law, no one under the age of 14 may take big game without having completed a Hunter Education Course. To hunt big game, anyone 9 to 13 years of age must have in their possession a valid hunting license, a valid Hunter Education Course completion card, plus any required permit tags.

Two Study Options

  • Attend a Basic Hunter Education Class or ...
  • Independent study through this online course, followed by a Field Day and a written test. The Field Day and written exam requirements are explained online at the Arizona Game and Fish Department Hunter Education Field Day web page.
  • Individuals 9 years of age or older may take either course (online or classroom) but to be certified, students must attend ALL listed dates and the certification will only be valid upon or after the 10 year birth date.

Bonus Points: All students, regardless of age, receive one Bonus Point for tag drawings after successfully completing an approved hunter education course. (A person can only receive one Education Bonus Point, so taking a course multiple times will not earn a student multiple Points.)

Online Hunter Education Home Study Steps

  2. Take the Practice Test as many times as you like—free of charge.
  3. Take the Field Day Qualification Exam for $15, collected whether you pass or fail. A score of 80% is required for passing the online exam.

Online students must have their Arizona Field Day Qualification Exam Certificate PRIOR to calling to schedule a field day.
