Selecting A Firearm

Accuracy is more important than the type rifle, cartridge, or bullet used. An animal hit inaccurately with a large-caliber rifle is just as likely to escape wounded as if it had been hit with a smaller-caliber gun.

You can be a successful hunter in Alaska with a rifle chambered for the .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, or .30-06 Springfield.

For maximum effect, use only high-quality bullets. Partition-type bullets are very effective on Alaska big game.

A bolt-action rifle made of stainless steel in a synthetic stock is an excellent choice for any Alaska hunter. It’s simple to operate and clean, and it’s the most reliable action under poor weather conditions or when the gun gets dirty in the field.
