Online Hunter Education Home Study Steps

  1. Study the Today's Hunter material in each chapter and then complete the chapter review questions.
  2. Take the Practice Test as many times as you like—free of charge—to ensure you've mastered the course material.
  3. Take the Field Day Qualification Exam. There is a $15 fee for the exam, which is collected whether you pass or fail. A score of 80% is required for passing the online exam.
  4. Upon passing the exam, you can print out your official Alaska Field Day Qualifier Certificate, which is accepted by the state as proof of home study.
  5. With your Field Day Qualifier Certificate number, you will then be able to sign up for a Field Day. Students should wait at least three business days before registering for a Field Day. Students that have provided a valid email address will receive a message to inform them that they are clear to sign up for a Field Day. Students will be required to enter their Field Day Qualifier Certificate number in order to register for a Field Day. To register for a Field Day, please go to the Online Course Field Day Signup. Please call 907-267-2187 if you have any questions.
  6. Attend your selected Field Day. You must bring your Field Day Qualifier Certificate for admission to your Field Day. Field Day will include firearms handling, field course, and a live fire proficiency with .22 caliber rifles. All training materials and firearms will be provided. Each student must fill out a Student Consent Form (pdf) and present it to the instructor at your selected Field Day. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should fill it out and must sign it. Every student must also present their Field Day Qualifier Certificate to the instructor.
  7. Take a final written test at the end of your Field Day.
  8. Upon passing all Field Day sections (field course, live-fire, and written test) you will then be issued a Temporary Certification Card. A permanent Hunter Education Card will be mailed to you within 7-10 days. You are legal to hunt with the Temporary Certification Card.
